The Bargain Box, a thrift store boutique, operated under the aegis of the Church of the Servant, Episcopal,(www.cosepiscopal.com) is a multi-faceted outreach ministry to the poor, homeless, and marginalized members of our community. We provide quality goods and clothing at significantly reduced prices, increasing the buying power and quality of life at all income levels. We seek to eliminate the negative image of second hand stores by providing a shop that is clean, well organized, pleasant, and inviting.

Bargain Box depends upon donations of gently used clothing and household goods from the public. We practice effective recycling of all items donated, from valuable antiques to rags and buttons, in a clean respectful boutique environment, giving them new life in an appropriate outreach project. Most of our donations are sold in the store, some are put in our free bin, a large bin of less than saleable clothing available free behind the store during store hours, and the rest is given to other programs that help clothe and care for the poor.

A successful thrift store, Bargain Box returns proceeds from sales to the community through min-grants and has provided free clothing and other services to more than 86 social services agencies. Because Church of the Servant has a long standing commitment to the homeless ministry, Bargain Box donates half of the net profits to GOOD SHEPHERD CENTER(www.goodshepherdwilmington.org) to address hunger and homelessness in our community. Katrina Knight, Executive Director of Good Shepherd Center, says that Bargain Box has been a vital resource for Good Shepherd for the past ten years, both in the annual financial support given by Bargain Box and also in their ongoing support of Good Shepherd clients through Bargain Bucks and other programs.
